Meet Bill Zimney, Our New Construction Manager

At Advantage Homes, the people behind your home matter just as much as the plans and materials that bring it to life. That’s why we’re excited to welcome a familiar face back to our team, William “Bill” Zimney has joined Advantage Homes as our new Construction Manager.

A Janesville native, Bill’s connection to our organization goes back to the beginning of his career. After high school, he continued his education at a technical school in Red Wing, Minnesota, where he studied energy engineering. Afterwards, he was hired by Amwood Building Systems, where he built a strong foundation in residential construction.

Decades of Hands-On Building Experience

Over the years, Bill has built an impressive career designing and constructing homes, gaining experience both in the field and behind the scenes. One of his most meaningful projects? Building a home for his own family just west of Janesville near Orfordville.

That mix of real-world jobsite experience and office coordination is exactly what drew Bill back to Advantage Homes.

“I’ve worked full-time in the field and full-time in an office, and this role combines both. It was exactly what I was looking for,” Bill shared. “Having worked at Amwood earlier in my career, I already knew the company was well established and reputable.”

What Bill Brings to Your Home-Building Experience

As Construction Manager, Bill will be:

• Visiting job sites regularly
• Coordinating between homeowners, subcontractors, suppliers, and the Advantage team
• Helping ensure each project stays on schedule and runs smoothly

For homeowners, that means clear communication, consistent oversight, and a knowledgeable point of contact throughout construction.

When asked what he enjoys most so far, Bill didn’t hesitate:

“The people. Advantage Homes has a friendly, supportive staff, and that makes a big difference.”

A Builder Who Appreciates Smart Design

Bill knows firsthand what makes a house feel like home. When asked about a feature he couldn’t live without, his answer was an easy one:

“Our walk-in pantry. My wife and I built our dream home in the country about 10 years ago, and I like to think of our pantry as our own little miniature grocery store.”

It’s a great reminder that thoughtful design details can make everyday living better.

Life Outside the Jobsite

When he’s not managing builds, Bill stays busy on his farmette, tackling hands-on projects and caring for a lively household. He and his wife Angela have been married for 27 years and have two daughters. One recently graduated from Parkview High School and plans to pursue nursing, while their older daughter made them proud grandparents four years ago.

Their country home is also shared with an impressive lineup of animals, including dogs, cats, chickens, goats, a turkey, a ferret, and even a few unconventional “pets.”

And here’s a fun fact you probably wouldn’t expect: Bill once worked part-time as a stuntman!
